I have been dabbling in affiliate marketing for about 2 months now and I'm finally making some headway. What I've found is that no one product is going to do it for you. If you want to be a successful affiliate marketer, or Internet marketer for that matter, you're going to need to diversify. After all, the work is done for you after you set up your account, then you just need to read a few emails every day. That gives you free time to find and market another product, and if you're as successful at this one, then you double your income. After that, just repeat the process until you feel comfortable with your income.
Affiliate marketing can be very simple or very difficult depending on if you take the time to actually read the instructions. After your first successful campaign, you will not need to read instructions, as it will be almost the same thing as any other that you may have done. There are affiliate sites that you can join for free, so don't waste your time with one that says you have to pay them in order to make money. The only reason you should ever pay to be an affiliate is to buy a physical product so you can test it out. These are usually on the more expensive side, however you will have an expensive commission on your sales as well. One other exception is Clickbank. Clickbank is the eBay of electronic products. You DO have to pay a one time setup fee for Clickbank, but they have the biggest collection on the web of affiliate products that you can market.
The best way to do anything on the web is to research it. You can reinvent the wheel, of course, but that only tends to happen like once a year. Like I said, do research. Anytime I was stuck on anything, I simply went on Google and searched for it. The most common effective way to be successful is to copy another successful business model. Not word for word, put your own twist on it, but you'll have a far better chance of success if you do something that is already working.
In closing, I would say that if you're interested in Internet marketing, RESEARCH IT. Find out if it's something you would really be interested in. If you can't put time into it without quitting when the first thing you try doesn't work for you, don't bother. It takes trial and error. Even if you're copying someone else, unless you do it word for word, your first try most likely won't work very well. I wasn't having much luck at all with my first campaign(4 or 5 clicks a day on my link, at most) until I upped my maximum keyword bid by 10 cents. All of a sudden, I had over 100 clicks per day! On only one link! There was nothing wrong with my ad, I just needed to move it up a little bit. You could imagine how good I felt about that. It will take time. It may take money, depending on how you go about it. It will pay off if you stay at it. Check my resource box for the Free Internet Business In A Box. It's simple, comes with a video, and will pay off if you're serious. Oh, and it's free.
